The Copper River Sockeye Salmon has become well-known over the past 30 years for its rich, nutty, and minerally flavor. This flavor is provided, in part, by the fat in the muscle tissue which has been built up to prepare for the difficult journey up the Copper River. This river is relatively short at 290 miles in length, but it has a large vertical drop and many difficult waterfalls navigate over. It takes a genetically well-built fish to make it up this river and then to successfully procreate. All of this makes for a great-tasting fish.
